{% tab title="Benefits" %}
**Fully connected**

OS MRN brings together existing OS Road, Rail, Path and Ferry networks in a fully connected dataset, using Modal Change Points to show where you can transition between them (for example, at railway stations and ferry terminals).

**OpenStreetMap schema**

OS MRN is built in the OpenStreetMap schema, which is widely supported by routing software, enabling use in a wide range of applications.

**Ready-to-use**

All the road restriction information you need for safe routing is included, as well as speed data, reducing the pain points of processing and joining multiple datasets.

* Planning safe routes to school
* Emergency Services planning and response
* Transport planning
* Supporting Active Travel initiatives
* Planning of accessible citizen services

The [OS MRN product page on the OS website](https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/products/os-multi-modal-routing-network#get) has advice on how to get the product for developers, OS Partners and PSGA Members (i.e. government and the public sector).

Alternatively, you can try out the full product for free for six months by applying for [a Data Exploration licence](https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/licensing/data-exploration-licence); this licence is primarily designed for organisations either considering becoming an OS Partner or who want to trial OS Premium data before working with an existing OS Partner.

The OS MRN product is supplied as an online download from the [OS Data Hub](https://osdatahub.os.uk/).

## Download OS MRN sample data

You can download sample data for the OS MRN for free from the [OS Data Hub](https://osdatahub.os.uk/data/downloads/sample/OsMultiModalRoutingNetwork). The sample data are available in GeoPackage and Protocolbuffer Binary Format (PBF) formats and cover three areas (Exeter, Newport and Inverness).
