2026 Product announcements

πŸŽ‰ May 2026 – OS Power BI Map Visual beta product is now an open source product

The OS Power BI Map Visual (formally called the OS Maps for Power BI Visual) was originally released as a beta product to customers in 2025. The beta phase ran from June 2025 to April 2026. In May 2026, the beta product became an open source one. The OS Power BI Map Visual can be downloaded from the Releases page of the OS GitHub repository.

The OS Power BI Map Visual is a tool for creating high-quality and insightful maps within Power BI, utilising OS mapping data. It's a highly flexible open source product, satisfying a wide range of use cases for customers through the creation of point and choropleth maps.

Documentation for the OS Power BI Map Visual (including a getting started guide and FAQs) used to live on this documentation site but has now moved to our More Than Maps site.

πŸŒ‰ April 2026 – New weirs and slipways data added to the OS Emergency Services Gazetteer and enhancements made to Bridge Interactions data

Weirs and slipways data are now available in the OS Emergency Services Gazetteer (OS ESG) product. Two new classification codes for slipways and weirs have been added to the product.

In addition, the names and / or numbers used by expert third parties to identify bridges are now provided in the OS ESG.

The new data will give Emergency Services the ability to better:

  • Pinpoint and verify the location of an incident

  • Analyse the trends and patterns of incidents to help identify risks and support incident planning

  • Provide situational awareness

  • Report on incidents

  • Dispatch and deploy to accurate locations

  • Perform quick and accurate gazetteer searches

ℹ️ April 2026 – Advanced notice of planned specification change for the 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster product

What is happening?

In the March 2027 release of the 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster product, we'll be introducing a specification change in the depiction of A roads classified as Primary Routes; in the same release, we'll also update the service area symbol.

Background

Primary Routes are defined as an A road or sequence of A roads, forming a continuous route between two primary destinations; further information can be found on the Gov.uk website in their 'Guidance on road classification and the primary route network' statutory guidance.

In the current supply of the 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster product, we don't show Primary Routes, and all A roads are depicted with a red fill, as indicated in the product's legend. The service area symbol for A roads is depicted with the letter S in white upon a red diamond and a cyan triangle for Motorway Service Areas.

Since November 2001, we have supplied Primary Routes depicted with a green fill in our 1:50 000 Scale Colour Raster product (as can be seen in the product's legend), and we've historically done so in our 1:250 000 Scale Colour Raster product (as can be seen in the product's legend). This change in the specification for the 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster product will align the three raster products, delivering improved consistency across the Maps and Imagery Portfolio.

What is changing?

The specification changes due to be delivered in the March 2027 release of 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster product are:

  • All relevant sections of A roads currently shown with a red fill will change to a green fill

  • The service area symbol will be updated to a black fill with the letter S in white for all service areas

The December 2026 release of the product will be the final release delivering the existing specification.

There should be no action for customers as all impacted tiles will be supplied as part of the your standard update in March 2027; however, some customers with Change-Only Update (COU) supplies may receive a larger update than usual for the March 2027 release of the product.

The 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster – Map symbols legends (available from the 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster Downloads page) will be updated accordingly in March 2027.

ℹ️ March 2026 – Update to OS MasterMap Topography Layer to improve the accuracy of position attributes

We're updating the OS MasterMap Topography Layer product to improve the accuracy of position attributes. As a result, some releases may include a higher‑than‑usual volume of changes relating to positional accuracy and associated metadata (for example, Reason for change). Feature geometry and other attribution remain unchanged by this update.

Where is this happening?

Updates for Scotland have been completed. Similar updates for England and Wales will be rolled out in phases in future releases.

What is changing?

You may notice an increase in Change-Only Updates (COU) compared to a typical release. This increase reflects data quality improvements rather than a change in physical features.

What product is impacted?

These updates apply to OS MasterMap Topographic Line only. OS National Geographic Database (OS NGD) products are not affected by this change.

Why is the product changed?

This update is part of our ongoing work to ensure OS MasterMap Topography Layer continues to meet expected standards of positional accuracy and reliability.

2025 Product announcements

πŸ“š December 2025 – Portfolios reorganisation

We have changed the way we categorise our products to make it easier for you to find them. The new portfolio names have been refined to be more intuitive and less specialist. For example, the Contextual or Derived Mapping Portfolio is now called the Maps and Imagery Portfolio. You'll notice the new portfolio names on the left-hand-side menu of the site.

Product documentation has been moved accordingly into the updated portfolios. Certain products can appear in multiple portfolios, but the product's documentation will only appear in its primary portfolio (for example, links to the OS MasterMap Topography Layer documentation now appear in four portfolios, but it's documentation is located in its primary portfolio – the Maps and Imagery Portfolio).

The following cards contain a complete list of all Download products included in the renamed portfolios:

Upcoming products

Our upcoming products span multiple product portfolios and are introduced early in their lifecycle to inform customers and OS Partners, gather insights on their use, and validate their value for potential future full releases. Products in development at this phase of the lifecycle will be provided as prototype, alpha or beta builds with varying levels of availability and completeness.

Below, you’ll find details of our current upcoming products:

December 2025 – Update to AddressBase Core schedule due to festive shutdown

December 2024 – Documentation available for new OS 3D Mesh beta product

Documentation, including an Overview and Getting Started Guide, is now available for the new OS 3D Mesh beta product.

OS 3D Mesh is a stand-alone product providing a photorealistic three-dimensional representation of the surface of the Earth and any features sitting above it, such as buildings, roads, and vegetation. The 3D mesh provided by this product can be used to visualise an area (for example, for urban planning and citizen engagement) or for analytical tasks such as line-of-sight analysis for the telecommunications and security sectors. OS 3D Mesh is derived from aerial imagery captured as part of our national imagery capture programme.

December 2024 – Bridge interactions data added to the OS Emergency Services Gazetteer

Bridge interactions data is now available in the OS Emergency Services Gazetteer (OS ESG) product; the data provide enhanced attribution for Bridge features and identify interactions between any networks passing over (for example, a footbridge, an aqueduct) and / or under (for example, a canal) a bridge.

In addition to the enhanced attribution, 54 new classification codes have been added to the product to give an overview of the type of networks that cross over and / or under bridges (for example, Footbridge Over Canal).

The new bridge interactions data will give Emergency Services the ability to better:

  • Pinpoint and verify the location of an incident

  • Analyse the trends and patterns of incidents to help identify risks and support incident planning

  • Provide situational awareness

  • Report on incidents

  • Dispatch and deploy to accurate locations

  • Perform quick and accurate gazetteer searches
