This code list is used in association with the Description attribute which is present within the Tidal Boundary Feature Type. The code list describes the type of feature that is coincident at the tidal boundary (for example, lock gate, built obstruction, fixed structure, etc.).
Label
Definition
Bottom Step Tread
Tidal boundary is coincident with the first tread encountered when ascending a set of steps.
Building Wall
Tidal boundary is coincident with the external outline of a building that is an obstruction at ground level.
Built Obstruction
Tidal boundary is coincident with a feature greater than 0.3m in height forming a barrier to passage.
Fixed Structure
Tidal boundary is coincident with a non-specific, permanent structure without moving parts.
Flood Gate
Tidal boundary is coincident with a movable barrier designed to control water during abnormal conditions.
Groyne
Tidal boundary is coincident with a structure of wood or stone normally perpendicular to the shoreline and designed to reduce erosion of sand, gravel or similar due to long shore drifting.
Lock Gate
Tidal boundary is coincident with a device for opening or closing a lock on a canal, river or dock entrance.
Roofed Weir
Tidal boundary is coincident with a low dam, covered by a roof, which is built across a river or stream in order to control the flow of water or changes its direction.
Sea Wall
Tidal boundary is coincident with a wall of stone or concrete, along the coast, affording protection from the sea.
Sluice Gate
Tidal boundary is coincident with a mechanical barrier that can be opened and closed to control the flow of water.
Top Step Tread
Tidal boundary is coincident with the highest tread on a set of steps.
Unknown Or No Physical Feature
Tidal boundary is not coincident with any artificial or natural feature.
Vertical Cliff
Tidal boundary is coincident with a vertical cliff (generally under 2m wide).
Vertical Waterfall
Tidal boundary is coincident with a steep fall of river or stream water, where its course is markedly and suddenly interrupted, that extends for less than 2.0m.
Waterfall Limit
Tidal boundary is coincident with the top or bottom extents of a waterfall area feature.
Weir
Tidal boundary is coincident with a low dam, which is built across a river or stream in order to control the flow of water or changes its direction.
