Upcoming Products Information

Information about our upcoming products.

Our upcoming products span multiple product portfolios and are introduced early in their lifecycle to inform customers and OS Partners, gather insights on their use, and validate their value for potential future full releases. Products in development at this phase of the lifecycle will be provided as prototype, alpha or beta builds with varying levels of availability and completeness.

Upcoming products will remain available to download while we collect feedback and evaluate their use. Not every product evaluated at this phase will progress to full release – some may be retired.

Definitions for each build type, and the products currently in each phase, are included below.

Prototype products

OS prototype products are early development models used to prove a concept and gain insight from customers and OS Partners without committing to a technology solution or future deliverables. Prototypes may take the form of a wireframe mock-up, a simple technology demonstrator or sample data output.

Prototype products may occasionally be shared with select customers to provide feedback that will shape future development, but they will not be available for commercial use.

Our current prototype product includes:

OS BaseMap Pro

OS BaseMap Pro will be our newest topographic vector product, providing our most detailed, trusted and accurate representation of Great Britain’s built and natural landscape. It will deliver a clear and consistent basemap for organisations that need to visualise, locate and digitise large-scale features with high-quality cartography.

Alpha products

OS alpha products are early stage incomplete builds used to shape and validate customer value, core functionality and technology architecture after a prototype product has shown early promise.

Alpha products may be shared with select customers to provide structured feedback with limited support, but they will not be available for commercial use.

We currently have no alpha products available to customers at this time.

Beta products

OS beta products are near‑complete versions of new products that include all high priority features and most core functionality. They are released to customers and OS Partners to validate usability, performance, customer value and readiness for full release.

Beta releases may be private (limited to selected users) or public (open to wider participation), and, in some cases, may allow commercial use. Feedback collected during the beta period helps shape final product design, confirm market fit, identify remaining issues and de‑risk adoption.

Our current beta products include:

OS 3D Mesh

A stand-alone beta product providing a three-dimensional representation of the surface of the Earth and any features sitting above it.

OS Maps for Power BI Visual

A stand-alone beta product for creating high-quality and insightful maps within Power BI, utilising OS mapping data. It's a highly flexible product, satisfying a wide range of use cases for customers through the creation of point and choropleth maps.

OS Enhanced Land Cover Beta

The OS Enhanced Land Cover Beta provides a comprehensive view of the natural habitat within England, by aggregating authoritative OS data with a wide range of third-party land cover and ecological datasets.
