This code list is used in association with the Description attribute which is present within the Site Feature Type. The code list describes the types of site features represented as polygons, such as a caravan site, university, or railway centre.

Please note, the ‘Description’ values for sites vary in their granularity. The level of detail is dependent on the size and nature of the site in question and the availability of additional information to determine its classification. This description is intended to give you the richest information we hold on what the site is when interpreting the data but it should not be used for analytical purposes.

Agriculture Services Site	A site where commercial support activities for agriculture take place.
Air Freight Terminal	A site within an airport where freight is loaded and unloaded from commercial aircraft.
Air Navigation Beacon	A site used to control aircraft movements.
Air Passenger Terminal	A site within an airport from which passengers embark and disembark from commercial aircraft flights.
Air Quality Monitoring Station	A site for measuring information about the atmosphere, in particular, air quality and pollution levels.
Air Traffic Control Centre	A site from where the passage of aircraft traffic is managed.
Air Transport Services Site	A site where aircraft are serviced and repaired.
Aircraft Works	A complex where aircraft are manufactured or maintained.
Airfield	An area of ground where aircraft take off and land. It will have some permanent buildings but it is smaller than an airport and may be for private use only.
Airport With Scheduled Services	A site where aircraft land and take off and which provide facilities for handling passengers and air freight, and for servicing aircraft, all in accordance to a strict timetable.
Airport Without Scheduled Services	A site where aircraft land and take off and which provide facilities for handling passengers and air freight, and for servicing aircraft, not in accordance to a strict timetable.
Airstrip	An area of unmade land that has been cleared so that light aircraft can take off and land with no other facilities.
Allotments	A small allocation of land, usually rented from a local authority, on which the occupier / tenant grows fruit and / or vegetables for their own consumption and not primarily for commercial gain.

Animal Cemetery	An area of land for the organised burial and memorial of deceased animals.

Boat Building Site	A site where small nautical craft are built.
Boat Hire Site	A site where nautical craft may be hired for recreational purposes.
Boat Lift	A device for lifting or moving boats between bodies of water at different elevations.
Boat Maintenance Or Storage Site	A site where nautical craft are repaired or stored. Commonly referred to as a boat yard.
Boating Site	A site, usually a lake or a pond, where boats may be used for recreational purposes.
Botanical Garden	An area of land containing plants of scientific interest and facilities for their care and cultivation.
Bothy	A site containing one or more bothies. A bothy is a hut, cottage, or similar building which provides a basic refuge in mountain and moorland areas.
Bowls Site	A site where the sport of bowls takes place.
Brewery	A place where beer and ale are brewed and distributed.
Brick Works	A manufacturing complex producing bricks and brick-associated products.
Buddhist Temple	A place of worship for practitioners of Buddhism.
Burial Ground	A site where human remains (bodies or cremated remains) are buried, but without structures to mark the graves.
Bus Depot	A place where buses are garaged and maintained, usually a large building with associated parking areas outside.
Bus Station	A place where buses begin, break or end their journey and at which passengers may embark or disembark.
Business Or Industrial Park	An area containing sites with various businesses, such as light industry, research, administration, etc.
Cable Terminal Station	A site where submarine cables carrying either telecommunication signals or electricity for power are terminated and connected to the land portion of the network.
Camp Site	An organised area of ground designated for tents, normally with a water supply and sanitary facilities provided.
Camping And Caravanning Site	An organised area of ground designated for temporary occupation by tents or caravans belonging to holidaymakers. Sanitary facilities and a water supply are normally provided.
Car Cleaning Site	A commercial establishment where motor vehicles are cleaned and / or valeted.

Castle	A fortress and dwelling, usually medieval in origin, and often consisting of a keep, curtain wall, and towers and so on.

Community Services	A site that provides information, help, advice, or other services to the inhabitants of an area.
