# parishorcommunitydescriptionvalue

This code list is used in association with the Description attribute which is present within the Parish Or Community Feature Type. The code list describes the type of parish or community (for example, Civil Parish).

| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Civil Parish     | Parishes are subdivisions of local authorities in many parts of England, and their councils are the most local level of government. Unlike electoral wards / divisions however, parishes are not found in all parts of England. The Welsh equivalents are Communities. Note that the full term for administrative parishes is 'Civil Parishes' to distinguish them from the ecclesiastical parishes which are found in all parts of the UK. |
| Community        | A sub-division of local authorities in all parts of Wales; their councils are the lowest tier of local government administration, equivalent to Parishes in England but covering the whole of Wales.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        |
| Non-Civil Parish | A non-urban area of England where Parish Councils exist but where in a specific location there is no parish-level local administration, often known as 'unparished' areas.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  |
